Log in at around 6 pm GMT and talk to a chat user named "MF Pro - Ask me". The chat session will last for around 2 hours, so try to prepare your questions before logging in, so that you'll have used this time in the most efficient way.

An update was made today, which fixed an improved a couple of things, and also administered an important change in the way the trigger's action "set user variable" is executed.

The "set user variable" trigger used to create and/or assign a value to a variable with the specified name. It value did not depend on what you would put in the "Selections" field of the trigger. So the result would always be the same, no matter whether you choose "All Selections", "Favourite", "Second Favourite" etc. as the "Selections".

Now the need to expand this action's usage made us change the way it works. Now it will be executed as many times, as the number of qualifying selections for the trigger. So for example, if you choose "All Selections", the user variable will be changed as many times as the number of runners in the market.

Here is an illustrated example.

Can you guess what the value of the "ab" variable will be after the trigger named "changing variable" is executed? Here is the hint:

The trigger has added all runners' chances for winning (100 divided by their price) and "ab" is now equal to the back book percentage.

In the previous versions its value would have been 100/3.95 = 25.32, regardless of what was in the "Selections" field.

This change will affect triggers that add or deduct something from the existing value of a user variable. For example, in staking plans, when the value of the current loss is calculated based on what it was in the previous market. Therefore it is very important that you review your triggers and make appropriate changes. If a variable needs to be changed only once per market, then set "Selections" to "Favourite", or any other option that implies only one selection.

We have updated trigger examples accordingly, where needed.

What benefits does the new change introduce?

The new behaviour of the trigger action makes it possible to apply some simple statistical functions to selections and their parameters. We will try to suggest several examples later in our blog, but here is the simplest one.

How to calculate the maximum profit/loss of all selections in the market.

The example consists of two triggers, each being repeated with an interval of 10 sec. The first trigger resets the initial value that all selections' P/L figures will be compared with. This number should be a big negative figure, so that in case all P/Ls are negative, the maximum of them will still be found. Here it is set to -1000, assuming that the maximum P/L will not be less than -1000 (Lord save you from such P/Ls!).

Now to test the triggers, start refreshing a market and placing back bets on different selections, randomly if you choose. Open the "View Variables" window and watch how the value of "maxpl" changes. Naturally, this variable can then be used in other triggers as well.

So, double-check your triggers now: wherever you'll meet a trigger with the action "set user variable", to be on the safe side change "Selections" to "Favourite", unless you want to explore the new opportunities this action provides.

More examples will follow in a short time.

•  We increased the precision of calculations in trigger expressions up to 8 digits after the decimal point
•  In Australian wallet deposits and withdrawals were included into win/lose variables in spite of the settings. Also prefixed win/lose variables might be processed incorrectly.

• Trigger Option "Minutes Since Refresh Start" and the corresponding trigger variable "refresh_start". This option checks the number of minutes that passed since the last moment you started monitoring (refreshing) the event.
• Trigger Variables minbp_[minutes], minlp_[minutes], maxbp_[minutes], maxlp_[minutes]. These variables return the minimum and maximum back or lay price that a selection has had within the last [minutes].
• New prefix match_[index]_ allows you to access the list of selections matching the trigger conditions. For example, if the trigger picked 3 selections out of 10, you can now address them with match_1_, match_2_ and match_3_. For example, match_1_back_price, match_2_back_price, match_3_back_price.

• Problems with editing bet persistence in the betting interface

• After a long period of inactivity with the Internet switched off, MF Pro might not resume refreshing correctly.

New trigger conditions

Previous Triggered Event's properties

The previous triggered event represents a market, where the current triggers has been executed at least once (at least on one selection), and that is the closest to the current event by its starting time. For example, if you are checking a trigger for the market "14:00 Wolv", and you also had markets "13:40 Ludl" and "13:50 Extr" in your list, then - provided that the trigger has been executed in those markets - the "Previous Triggered Event" will be "13:50 Extr", and by accessing it you can check all its properties, including whether it has been settled.

Current Time

This option allows you to maintain the value of the current date and time in various ways. Instead of using the inconvenient trigger variable (now_time), you can now operate the usual date and time values, and even weekdays. For example:

• Current Time is less than 08:00
• Current Time is between 06:30 AM and 06:30 PM
• Current Time is outside 22:00 and 23:50
• Current Time is greater than 20:15
• Current Time is equal or greater than 09:12 PM
• Current Time is in list 07:00, 18:00, 10:00 PM
• Current Time is less than 12/06/2008
• Current Time is greater than 22/08/2009 12:40
• Current Time is equal to Mon
• Current Time is between Tue and Fri
• Current Time is outside list Sat, Sun

You can now make your triggers be executed on certain weekdays, or disable them at certain time of the day, or on certain days.

New condition parameters

We decided to add more condition parameters, this should make your life easier, as operating trigger variables is not always convenient, and sometimes it takes much time to look up the right variable.

Here is the list of the most frequently used parameters that we have added:

• Back Ticks Dif over time  - the difference in ticks between the current back price and the price that a selection had a certain time ago. The same as tdif_ variable.
• Lay Ticks Dif over time - the difference in ticks between the current lay price and the price that a selection had a certain time ago.  The same as ltdif_ variable.
• Last Traded Price - the last price that was taken for the selection. The same as last_traded variable.
• Rank (the position of the selection in the list of selections sorted by price. The favourite gets 1, second favourite - 2 and so on. The same as sel_order variable. For checking whether a selection is the favourite, now simply add this condition:
  
  Selection's Rank is equal to 0
  
  For getting the list of three favourites, use this condition:
  
  Any Selection's Rank is less than 4
  
• Last Back Price - The last back price that was recorded for the selection before the event has started. The same as last_backp.
• Last Lay Price - The last lay price that was recorded for the selection before the event has started. The same as last_layp.
• Name - the name of the selection (the one BetFair has assigned). You can now check the selection's name using a simple condition, for example:
  
  Any Selection's Name is equal to "The Draw"
  
  This will pick "The Draw" in any match.
  
  Any Selection's Name contains "0 -"
  
  This will get all selections that contain the sequence "0 -" inside them (for example, in "Correct Score" matches).
  
  Selection's Name does not contain Res
  
  This will check whether a selection does not have a string pattern "Res" inside it.

New option for trigger condition "Trigger or Trigger Block has been executed".

Now you can check if a trigger has (or has not) been executed at least one time during the whole trading session. By checking the "overall" box you will let the program know, that it must find out if the trigger has been executed in at least one market, for at least one selection.

Addressing trigger variables belonging to "Any Other" and "All Other" selections

A new prefix has been added: other_. Using this prefix you can let the program know, that the variable should be interpreted for the "other" selection in "Any Other Selection's" and "All Other Selections'" conditions, unlike the variables belonging to the selections specified in the "Selections" field of the trigger. See the details in the help file, chapter "Selection Variables".

1. "Automatically prevent exceeding the limit" - a new option of "Data Request Monitor". When activated, the option does not let the program send more requests per second, than "Request limit" allows.

2. "Update bets individually for each market" and "Simultaneously with refreshing the market" - these two options (in "Betting Options") will be helpful for users that usually refresh no more than 5 markets at a time. By activating these options you may reduce the number of requests per second as compared to updating the list of bets in all markets. See the details in the help file.

In view of the forthcoming changes in BetFair data usage we have added a couple of tools for controlling your traffic and the number of requests that you make from inside MF Pro.

We therefore extended the functionality of "Connection Monitor". It will now count and record your total requests and average requests per second of different types and warn you, when (and if) you exceed the limit.

Click on the button in the right-top corner of the application to get acquainted with the new "data monitor" tools. Keep an eye on your traffic usage and get prepared to the changes that will take place since the 14th of April.

We have also created a separate group of trigger variables that reflect the numbers calculated by the connection monitor. Using these variables you can choose the right time to execute a trigger, or you may be notified by a trigger whenever the request limit is exceeded.

As we get more information from BetFair regarding the new charging scheme, we will add more useful tools.

• Moving average for the last traded price. The MA is displayed when a market's in Full Mode. Also, there is a new trigger variable lt_ma, that returns the value of this indicator.
• Weight of Money indicator (WOM). Shows the ratio of the total back amount offered for a selection to the sum of total back and lay amounts. That is, if WOM is equal to 1.0, it means that all the money is offered on the back side. If WOM = 0, then all the money is on the lay side. This value is displayed in the Full Mode, and also in the charts. The corresponding trigger variable (sel_wom) and trigger condition parameter have been added.
• Trigger action "distribute profit", which distributes the profit, that the selection has in its P/L figure, between the other selections equally.
• The log file now shows what procedure or function has placed, edited or cancelled a bet. It may be a trigger, auto-dutching or auto-greenup settings, stop-loss options, betting interface or a ladder. This should help you to control the auto-trading options that are active in your MF Pro.

Bugs Fixed:

• The sel_index variable did not work for the "0-0" selection in the correct score markets
• Some default Auto-Dutching settings could not be applied to newly added markets

• New trigger variables b_tick (former p_tick) and l_tick (the price tick calculated for the current lay price of a selection)
• A function r_ticks([price], [ticks]) that returns a [price] reduced or increased by the number of [ticks]. The latter can be positive (for increasing the price) or negative (for reducing it). The function can be used in triggers, offsets and books for calculating and comparing prices.

- trigger variables bm_backp, bm_backa, bm_layp, bm_laya, bu_backp, bu_backa, bu_layp, bu_laya return the information about the latest bets made on a selection. So if you tend to apply the same triggers to a single selection several times, these variables will let you create a universal trigger without the need to correct your formulas each time a new bet is made.

- a new cell called "Wins" is added to the "List of events" sheet, in the header of the account statement. It shows how many races you have won in a row. This is very important for those strategies that take into account the probability of winning a certain number of times in a row.

- "Total Won" - this figure displays how much you have won/lost during the whole trading session starting from the date specified in the "Account Statement" group of settings in the "Betting Options" tab. You can use this cell in your triggers to control your losses or total winnings.

- "Efficiency %" - shows how much your winnings exceed your losses, in percentage of the total transactions in your account. Very useful for you to evaluate the efficiency of your strategy.

Update: the second problem fixed may happen if you choose to obtain UK Horse Race results and run a market that got suspended. During these moments the date and time of the events you're monitoring may get mixed.

The newest addition is an ability to obtain the results of the UK and Greyhound races within a minute after their finish.

Those users who watch our news may have already downloaded the latest versions and updated their copies of MarketFeeder Pro. In that case the only new feature (but what a feature!) they will discover is a new tab in the application called "Extra Data". Currently there are two checkboxes on this tab allowing you to choose whether you want to receive the outcome of UK horse races and Greyhound races. We plan to add more options to this tab eventually.

- In Offset Betting: if the prices suddenly changed before the first and second bets, the winner might change and the second bet might be placed on a different runner (if "Winner" was selected). This is fixed.
- In Account Statement, if you checked "Bet transactions only" it occasionally still showed BetFair withdrawals and deposits. Fixed as well.

Also, we introduced a new betting option called "Adjust invalid price increments to the nearest valid" which is very handy if you use complicated formulas to calculate price - and they sometimes return values that don't fit into BetFair price tick scheme.

We hope that you'll enjoy new features. We will soon add new trigger examples showing how to use these options.

The update has added optional logging triggers' states. Many customers ask "why my trigger doesn't work" and it later turns out that they configured some settings so that they prevented certain triggers from working. So in order to help you to understand why your trigger may be not working we have added this feature. We plan to improve the interface with these logs. Right now all log files are stored in raw text and available in the following directory: "%installation_directory%/logs/triggers/" - where %installation_directory% is a folder where you have installed MarketFeeder Pro.

This folder will contain text files with records on each trigger's state every refresh - of course if you have set up and activated at least one trigger and if you checked "Maintain trigger log" on the "Trigger Options" tab.

Another new trigger variable is last_suspend which returns the time of the last market suspension. Accordingly, a new "Cell" option is added - "Minutes Since Suspension".

Now all these figures and some additional bits, such as the trainer's and owner's names, age/weight of a horse, its sex and colour etc., and even the details of a horse's parents and grandfather can be viewed in MarketFeeder Pro easily:

I hope you are as excited as I am. Because not only can you watch all these data and adjust what parts of it you want to have on screen, you can now use them in your triggers!

All silks values have been converted in selection-related trigger variables, which you can find in the corresponding help file chapter.

Plus for more convenience some of them can be accessed through selection-related trigger conditions, such as:

Selection's Weight in pounds
Selection's Saddle Cloth Number

and some others (check the help file).

Also, the gurus of horse racing silks can analyse a horse's form by checking what sequences of characters (figures, letters and special symbols) it might or might not have. Examples:

Selection's Form contains sequence 12[^F-]

This means: find a form where a horse took the first place, then the second and then was any result except a fall or a period of years off track. This looks complicated at first, but take a couple of minutes to read the new help file's chapter "Form Identifier" ("Triggered Betting" -> "Trigger Conditions" -> "Condition Parameters" -> "Form Identifier"), and you will be ready to go.

What else?

Apart from the silks, we've also rectified some problems you've reported on the forum and to our support guys, and added a couple of new options/function:

Automatic adding of Greyhound UK and non-UK races

It used to be only one type: just today's Greyhound races. Now this is broken into two types of markets which you can add separately.

Does a market turn In-Play or not?

Now you can answer this question immediately after looking at the market's status:

If there is a black-and-white image resembling that of the In-Play status, then it means the market will turn In-Play at the start of the event.

Also, a trigger variable has been added, market_turn_inplay. It returns 1 if the market will go in-play, or 0 otherwise.

Add markets automatically - now safer

We have improved the way markets are added in one go: before adding bulk markets would mean freezing the program for a couple of minutes. Besides it might even result in exceeding BetFair request limits, for instance, if you were adding football matches.

Now the task of adding multiple markets is put in a queue, and markets are added gradually, without stopping MF Pro from doing something else. Plus it won't search for markets to add if other requests to BetFair have been made at that very moment.

Plus we met quite reasonable requests to reverse the trigger variable silk_form_[number], that is used for accessing a particular character in a horse's form. Starting from this version silk_form_1 will return the LAST character in the sequence, silk_form_2 - the one before the last and so on. So be attentive and make sure you've corrected your triggers accordingly!

New Features

Match Score

It has become possible to track the current score of a match in a real-time mode. And we're talking not only about soccer matches, some other sports are also included, such as tennis, basketball, hockey, baseball etc.!

Imagine being able to build your strategy on knowing the exact score of the match. From now on you can use special trigger variables that return the values of the current and previous score:

market_score1, market_score2 - for the current score

market_pscore1, market_pscore2 - for the previous score

Relevant help file chapters: "Monitoring Options"; "Triggered Betting" -> "Trigger Variables" -> "Market Variables" / "Match Score".

If downloading the score is turned on in "Monitoring Options", you will see the values of the score in the market sheet:

However we have to put a disclaimer: in no way can we guarantee that the score will always be correct and up to date, as we use a third-party company's data to provide this information. So be extra attentive when trying this new function.

New trigger action: Delete market

You can now delete unnecessary markets (provided they are being refreshed) with a new trigger action "delete market". The market (including its bets) will be deleted from "My Markets" list, if the conditions of the trigger are satisfied.

New setting: Delete settled events automatically

We have transformed the setting called "Delete finished events automatically" into a drop-down list with two options: finished or settled.

So now you can choose to delete only those events that have been settled (and all their bets as well). This is especially useful in Test Mode, when events finish 5-10 minutes before their results become available at BetFair.

New functionality for Horse Racing Silks Form

• A special character "x" is now recognised in Australian and NZ horse forms.
  
• It is now possible to check whether the sequence you are looking for is in the beginning or in the end of the form string. Besides, you can search for a particular sequence ignoring certain characters that are not important. I.e. search for "123", ignoring "/" and "-", so it can be "12-3", "1/2/3", "1-2/3" etc.

Relevant help file chapters: "Triggered Betting" -> "Trigger Conditions" -> "Condition Parameters" -> "Form Identifier".

Error messages in Greyhound races

We believe we have found the reason why you might experience problems with Greyhound races, after one of the runners was replaced. We tried to finally rectify this bug in version 6.2. If you are still experiencing problems with that, please email our support.

Performance of formula parser

We've increased the performance of parsing formulae and trigger expressions in triggers. So nested IFs and expressions in multiple brackets should now be calculated faster.

Both versions 6.1 and 6.2 are available for download on our download page. If for some reason you find version 6.2 unstable, please feel free to report the problem to our support, and keep using version 6.1 instead. Due to a quite substantial code change needed for obtaining match score, we realise that the new update might need further testing.

Protecting triggers

We have slightly changed the way trigger files are protected.
We had to do that because on some computers the previous encrypting routine would return different results, and thus users could not read files encrypted on those computers.

We regret to say that the previously encrypted files will not open in the new versions of MF Pro.

But the good news is that we increased the robustness of the encrypting method. Plus now you can choose to EITHER protect triggers with a password OR with a software key. There is no need to apply both methods.

The interface for protecting triggers looks almost the same:

The expiration date of a trigger file is now displayed on the screen.

Trigger comparative expressions "is in list", "is not in list"

You can now compare a value or parameter with a long list of values (numbers or strings) that you can load from a text file.
Before this update the only option you had was to list these values comma separated in the text field:

Any Selection's Jockey's Name is in list A. Bodey, A. Bolden, A. Donnelly

Now imagine you want to run through the list of 100 jockeys. You would have to type them all into the text field manually. Which is far from being user friendly.

So now you can specify the name of the file where the corresponding values are stored:

Any Selection's Jockey's Name is in list C:\Program Files\MarketFeeder Pro 6\jockeys.txt

The file is read each time you save the conditions of the corresponding trigger. So if you've changed the file, you will need to re-open the trigger and save its conditions again.

The corresponding chapters of the manual "Protecting Triggers" and "Comparative Expressions" have been updated.

Conclusions that we’ve drawn

This has been our first trigger competition, and we’re very much looking forward to the next one, with most probably a better prize and more organized schedules.

We need to think of a better trigger editor. Since many of you works with tens of triggers, it is now a priority to improve the trigger interface and make it faster and more efficient.

We need to organize trigger log files so that they don’t take so much space and are easier to read and understand the reason why the trigger is not working at every particular moment.

And the most pleasant conclusion is that our customers are the most intelligent BF users ever! :) Keep up the good work!

We've been reported certain problems with version 6.2.3, thus we had to provid a quick fix yesterday. You should have received a new message from the program saying that the new version 6.2.3.1 is there. But in case you haven't, please re-download it from our server in case you want to benefit from the new features. If not, you can use the older version. We apologise for this inconvenience.

In today's update:

Auto-Dutching

The way profit is calculated has slightly changed, and I believe this will remove an annoying obstacle for those who trade on the same selection many times. Before it used to take into account the profit or loss generated by the previous bets placed on the selection. So if you want to make 1% profit, this would normally work on the first pair of bets, then to make another 1% of profit you would have to increase the profit percentage to 2% and so on.

Now each new pair of bets will be calculated without the history of the previous bets, unless the previous green-ups are incomplete.

Price Ladder

Major improvement of the interface: we've added some visual instruments to simplify scalping. Also it is now possible to change the price of an unmatched bet by simply dragging and dropping it on the necessary place. Attention! To cancel a bet you will now need to double-click on the appropriate cell.

Triggered Betting

• New function INTEGER(expression), which returns the integer part of a number.
• The condition "is in list" has been slightly modified to make it possible give your trigger files containing this condition to other users, together with the file that the condition refers to.
• Protection by software key has been modified to increase security. If you have your trigger files protected by software key, you will need to re-protect them using the new software key that your customers will provide.

We've kept the older version on the Download page, so you can revert to it if you find any problem with the newest update.

• Distribute loss didn't work if two bets were placed on a selection, of which the back bet's amount was less than the lay bet's amount.
• In test mode unmatched bets that were to be matched at SP would be cancelled, if the market first turned suspended and then in-play.
