In-Play (market status)
The period after the event has started and until its markets have been suspended for betting. During the in-play period, prices normally change much more frequently and larger amounts are matched in bets.
BetFair may impose a betting delay in some In-Play markets. For the residents of some countries, In-Play betting may not be available (such as In-Play horse racing markets for Australians).

Idle (market)
The idle state of a market is the period between the moment when the market has been created on BetFair and the moment the associated event begins. You can place bets when the market is in Idle state. Prices normally do not change very often until well towards the start of the event, when the market turns from Idle to In-Play.
Idle markets can turn Suspended and then Idle again.
